Case Study
Gurrigal Street, Mosman NSW

THE CHALLENGES
This project was delivered within the NSW Design and Building Practitioners Act (DBPA) framework, requiring a high level of regulatory compliance, design accountability, and documentation rigour. The site presented typical inner-suburban constraints, including limited access and excavation considerations common to high-value residential developments in established urban areas.
In addition, both permanent and temporary works needed to be carefully coordinated to ensure constructibility, safe staging, and alignment with certifier expectations throughout the approval process.
OUR APPROACH
Metric Engineering delivered fully coordinated structural engineering and shoring designs, addressing both permanent structural systems and excavation support requirements.
Designs were developed with a strong focus on constructability and sequencing, ensuring that temporary works solutions were practically integrated with the permanent structure and reflective of real construction stages.
Particular emphasis was placed on DBPA-compliant documentation, with regulated designs prepared to meet statutory obligations and support efficient review by certifiers and other approval authorities.

THE RESULTS
The project achieved a clear, compliant, and construction-ready design outcome, supporting a streamlined pathway through Construction Certificate and Occupation Certificate approvals.
Metric’s coordinated approach reduced construction-stage risk, improved clarity for site teams, and ensured the development progressed in alignment with regulatory and certification requirements for Class 2 residential buildings.
