Kora, Crows Nest
THE CHALLENGES
Kora is a boutique residential building at the northern gateway of Crows Nest village — travertine, softly curved render and bronze detailing, with metalwork carrying much of the architectural expression: curved balustrades to the feature stairs and balconies, privacy screens, louvred doors and roof plant screening. Every element had to satisfy the architect's eye and the certifier's checklist at once — compliant, buildable by the fabricator, and refined enough for a building of this calibre.
OUR APPROACH
Engaged by the metalwork fabricator, Metric Engineering delivered the structural design for the full metalwork package — feature stair balustrades to the front entry and internal stairs, handrails to the basement stair, ramp and Level 2 wintergarden balconies, privacy screens and louvre doors, roof plant screens, gates and scupper overflows, storage cages and miscellaneous steel. Members and connections were analysed in SpaceGass with proprietary anchor design, documented to AS/NZS 1170, AS 1428.1, AS 1657, AS 4100 and AS/NZS 1664.1.
Deliverables ran from typical approval details through shop-drawing-level documentation, worked through architect review cycles to close-out — with certification for occupation supported at completion.
THE RESULTS
A fully engineered metalwork package carrying the building's most visible architectural details — curved balustrades, screens and feature elements delivered through coordinated shop drawings, standards-backed design and responsive review cycles with the project team.
